What we do
The Policy Research Unit in Commissioning and the Healthcare System (PRUComm) has been providing evidence to the Department of Health and Social Care since 2010 to inform the development of policy on the health and social care system and commissioning. We focus on maximising outcomes for the public and patients.
Our analytical work supports understanding how the health and social care system and commissioning operate and how services and access can be improved, how to increase effectiveness and respond better to patient needs. Ultimately, we aim to improve outcomes and the quality of health and care services in an effective and efficient manner.
The Unit is funded by the Policy Research Programme of the National Institute of Health Research as a centre of excellence for research on health and social care systems and commissioning, which:
- Develops high quality research programmes that support policy and decision makers and health and social care commissioners
- Provides a national resource through developing and collating evidence and research on health and social care systems and commissioning
- Brings together academics experts in the research of health services, health and social care systems and commissioning
